Plumber in Moundville

Moundville at a glance

Moundville is a city in Hale and Tuscaloosa counties with 3,024 people at the 2020 census. It lies on the south side of the Black Warrior River, and Alabama State Route 69 leads 16 miles north to Tuscaloosa.

What that means for your plumbing

Moundville was incorporated in 1908, so its older homes may have original service lines, cast iron drains and galvanized pipe. Those wear slowly from the inside, showing up as low pressure, rusty water and slow drains. A camera inspection shows the drain's condition; see sewer line repair.

Across a county line

Until the 1970 census Moundville lay entirely in Hale County; its limits now reach north into Tuscaloosa County. Residents in each county attend different school systems, and permit offices can differ too. A local licensed plumber will know which applies to your address.

An ancient center

Within the city lies the Moundville Archaeological Site, once a political and ceremonial center of the prehistoric Mississippian culture and today one of the region's best-known landmarks. In the 1930s photographer Walker Evans and writer James Agee documented the lives of tenant farmers around Moundville in the book Let Us Now Praise Famous Men. A town with that much history has homes of many ages, some modest and long-lived. If you live in one of the older houses, keep an eye on the water heater's age, the condition of the drain lines and the shut-off valves, which may not have been turned in years.
